Tenuta Montemagno lies in gently-rolling hills on the 45th parallel, a latitude that has always been known, right from the earliest centuries, for high-quality wine production. Our 100 hectares of vineyards include the most prestigious Piedmont denominations and wine-types: Barbera d’Asti, Grignolino d’Asti, Ruché di Castagnole Monferrato, Malvasia di Casorzo. But Monferrato yields great white wines as well, above all Timorasso and Sauvignon Blanc, which in our clay soils exhibits striking mineral notes and a rich bouquet.
Thanks to vineyards facing south-west, the microclimate enjoyed by this area with its clayey calcareous soil, a process carried out by hand, the brilliant intuitions of the Barea family and the expertise of oenologist Gianfranco Cordero, Tenuta Montemagno produces bottles of great prestige now figuring among the top 100 Italian wines.
As tradition requires, after the grape harvest, vinification and refining are done in the ancient frescoed cellars at Tenuta Montemagno, using the most modern technology. This is where traditional wines of strong character and decidedly new ones, such as TM Brut, obtained from Barbera grapes using the classic method, come to life and are allowed to rest for the necessary time.
One of the most ancient native vines of Monferrato, it has been known since the Middle Ages by the name Barbesino, and it owes its etymology to the name gragnola, a dialect term to indicate the numerous seeds of this grape. Prolonged ageing on the skins without pips enhances the olfactory characteristics of dried rose and the aromatic complexity of wild strawberries, wild berries, and raspberries.
The gustatory profile offers versatile traits in gastronomic combinations, a fair palatal volume, a present and not aggressive tannin, and a dry finish with a fruity correspondence on the notes perceived in the olfactory analysis.
