The Marchesi de’ Cordano winery, a marvel of engineering and innovation.
Research, tradition and sustainability are the key words that guide the philosophy of the Marchesi de’ Cordano company, a reality that embodies the history of the D’Onofrio family, solid and long-lived, made up of winemakers and farmers. The company is today represented by Francesco D’Onofrio who has been able to add vigor, strength and innovation to the already extraordinary vocation of a territory, that of Loreto Aprutino, where one of the most dimensionally important estates for the winery is located.
Together with Francesco, it is the passionate and virtuous technical expertise of the oenologist Vittorio Festa that gives a definitive body to the products, which are nourished by indigenous yeasts and mature from research and constant dialogue with the land, characteristics that have led Marchesi de’ Cordano to become a brand synonymous with quality, now present throughout the world.
The Cooperage
The rich barrel cellar is kept on the lower floor, where all the wines are aged in wood, rising in barrels or barriques. Here there is also space for barrels restored by the ancient and noble liqueur factory Aurum of Pescara: a true historical and cultural heritage, otherwise destined to be lost, recovered by the will of Francesco and Vittorio.
Expertly reworked by professionals in the sector, these barrels today live a new life inside the enchanting underground environment that houses them. In the same environment there is space for the historical memory of the company, an expression of the values and work of the Marchesi de’ Cordano winery.
Grapes: Montepulciano
Vinification: Short drying in the vineyard, permanence of 20 – 22 days on the skins with pumping over in the air, followed by static decanting in large barrels. Subsequently the wine is left to refine for 12 months in 50 hl barrels and 12 months in barriques and then rests for 12 months in the bottle.
Tasting Notes:
The complexity of this intense ruby red wine, sensual and enveloping, is expressed in the bouquet that immediately recalls withered flowers and red fruit jam. A pleasant spiciness of liquorice, black pepper, cloves and vanilla emerges with toasted hints of coffee and tobacco.
Maximum Expression: 12-15 years.
Serving temperature: 18-20°C.
Alcohol: 15% vol.
