Intense ruby ​​red wine with purplish reflections.

Vinification: The harvest was done by hand in crates the first week of November. Maceration on the skin for 18 days in steel at controlled temperature. After the malolactic fermentation is completed in January, the wine is placed in barrels and left to rest for two years in tuff caves at constant natural temperature and humidity. It then spends two years in bottle.

Forest floor, dried aromatic herbs, sunny soil, new leather, raspberry jam and licorice flavours are found in the full-bodied palate with dried cherry and clove. Fine-grained tannins give it a polished texture and a firm finish.

“The Stupor Mundi reserve is produced only in the best vintages, those in which nature amazes us and lets us choose the most beautiful bunches from the already reduced production of our oldest vineyard, located 500 meters above sea level. What is a reserve? The rules of the specifications: minimum two years of wood and two years of bottle. Our choices: the reserve only comes out in special vintages, those whose results we think come closest to our ideal of Aglianico. The total production is only 1,500 bottles of which a small part is intended for the market “


A few words about the producer of this wine…

Azienda Carbone is located in Melfi, on the slopes of Mount Vulture , an ancient volcano located in the heart of Basilicata which gives the region a unique terroir: a lava soil rich in potassium and extremely fertile. Nature offers high quality wines and oils. Its association with the microclimate, characterized by high temperatures, makes the Aglianico unique, which has its roots in this region. Wine is a family passion for Carbone, winemaker since 1974, transmitted to the children Luca and Sara who continue the wine activity of DOC Aglianico del Vulture in the sense of continuity of experiences and values. The underlying philosophy that guides family choices is the exaltation of terroir.

Azienda Carbone is a small family business (18 ha) in Melfi. Sara & Luca took over the business from their parents a few years ago and were determined to produce truly great wines. With the help of Sergio Paternoster (one of the best oenologists in the world), they managed to produce Aglianico of incredible quality.
