When you’re eating HOT CROSS BUNS!

It isn’t Easter until we have eaten our weight in hot cross buns! Best enjoyed a little warm with (lots) of butter melted on top.

You might need a hot cup of tea or coffee to get you going first thing in the morning, but a cheeky nip of something later in the day is always a good idea!

You don’t want to overload the sweetness, so opt for a dry, savoury Rosé. The savoury flavours will match the sweetness of the plump sultanas and the spice from the cinnamon in the bun. The Langhe Rosato (100% Nebbiolo) is a savoury elegant wine with delicious cherry fruit flavours with a lovely tang and acidity.

A Brut Champagne would also pair. The yeasty spice characters in the sparkling are the perfect match for the fruit spice characters in hot cross buns.

You may also enjoy the following wines:

Sweet Oloroso – a style of sherry with notes of nuts and orange will definitely work beautifully with a hot cross bun.

Riesling – a semi dry wine with apricot, lemon-lime and mineral flavours.

Chardonnay – a ripe and crisp white with fruit flavours such as apple, pineapple and citrus.

Cabernet Franc – mouth drying with blueberry, raspberry, violets, dried herbs & wet earth.

These are the perfect drink to sip on in the afternoon alongside a bun – and not too decadent to push you over the edge on your four days of indulgence!
