Fattoria San Giuliano – Moscato d`Asti
DOCG

The Sweet Italian All-Rounder!

There are many Moscato`s in the world, but this one is the best. From the original area and from a high quality estate, this is a perfect aperitif wine to open the appetite. It’s also perfect to have around the holidays and/or as a gift to wine lovers who appreciate the lower alcohol, semi-sweet, and this purely enjoyable wine.

San Giuliano is a family-owned estate, headed by Giulio Pastura and his wife, Mariella, who do nearly all the winemaking and vineyard work themselves. The vineyard itself has been intricately cultivated, consisting of 15 acres of Moscato, Nebbiolo, Barbera, Dolcetto, Arneis, and Brachetto in the zones of Roero and Neive. Opportunely placed to benefit from excellent exposure to southern sunlight and glancing breezes, the vines are robust and distinctive, ranging from 15 to 60 years old. The wines of the San Giuliano estate are expressive of the passion and deep personal involvement that goes into their creation.

It’s said that Moscato d’Asti has been producing wines since the days of the ancient Romans. These days, the name of the appellation says it all. Located in the hills that overlook the Italian town of Asti, this region’s reputation is anchored by the creation of semi-sweet, low-alcohol wine that’s equipped with a light sparkle. These wines are made with a quick, gentle pressing technique dubbed the “Asti method,” a nickname that helps to entrench the region’s reputation for making fun, indulgent wines that are destined to keep the party going.

The carefully selected grapes, harvested at full maturity, are vinified immediately as they arrive at the winery. Due to its characteristics and the particular method of production, the wine is ready to be consumed in a few weeks after bottling.

My Tasting Notes:

100% Moscato. Bright straw yellow colour with green reflections. Crispy, overwhelmingly aromatic showing fresh, fruit flavours. Sweet with subtle effervescence on the palate.

Food Pairing:

As an aperitif, optimal with tarts, pastries in general, panettone and filled pastries.

Similar Wine:

Desiderio (100% Brachetto) same characteristics; sweet taste, slightly sparkling, low in alcohol, but made from red grapes. Enjoyed chilled.
